What Is Tae Kwon Do?

The art of Tae Kwon Do originated in Korea and has been practiced for centuries. "Tae" directly translated means to kick or hit with the foot. "Kwon" means to punch with a fist. "Do" is The Art, or The Way. So "Tae Kwon Do" means "The Art of The Foot and The Fist".

Tae Kwon Do focuses on learning sparring techniques using various kicks, punches, and blocks. However, there is more to Tae Kwon Do than just the use of skilled techniques. It is a way in developing one's body, spirit, and mind to the highest possible degree. On a strictly physical level, one can hone the body to perfection by incorporating the mind, body and spirit. It brings grace and harmony in movement that is not only beautiful to watch, but brings about a true sense of completeness that can never be surpassed. There is so much to be gained from the physical discipline involved if the art is practiced correctly and in the way it was originally intended to be applied.

This wonderful Martial Art also develops inner strength and confidence through mental discipline and self control. Tae Kwon Do is intended to become a "Way of Life" for all who practice it, and its benefits should never be underestimated.
